Why did you choose dental hygiene school?

I was interested in dentistry

What do you like most about dental hygiene school and the least?

I learned a lot from very good professors and met many people from different parts of the world. Its great that we are all so different, yet we all speak the same dental language!

What advice do you wish someone would have shared with you before enrolling into dental hygiene school?

That we don’t have it easy. People don’t value our career as much because they are not familiar with it, so they don’t give us much credit for the hard work we do. Its important we spread knowledge about our profession because they either think we are a dental assistant or a dentist.

Any tips or advice for new students working on the clinic floor?

You got this. Be confident, be thorough but also try to work on time management. This helped me a lot during school. I was fast and patients and dental students appreciated it.

How did you manage your stress and workload during dental hygiene school?

Its important to have a balance. Study but also have a life. Take care of yourself too.

Name one of your favorite clinical rotations and why?

Periodontics. It is the hard cases that intrigued me. I am in a perio office now and I love it. Its definitely more challenging but its exciting and very rewarding

What are some helpful materials/resources you used to study and prepare for your board & license exams?

Outlines, dental hygiene decks, past quizzes and exams. Studying with friends helps too. Share information and help each other. Have your friends quiz you and quiz them too.

Discuss one challenge you faced during your dental hygiene school and how did you overcome it?

Life keeps happening while we are in school. We all may be dealing with something unexpected and we have to just trust that everything will be ok. That’s where we need to learn balancing personal life and school.

What do you use for your everyday oral hygiene routine?

Toothbrush: Varies! I have different electric toothbrushes and manual toothbrush sometimes. I have the Oral B Genius, Sonicare flex care platinum, Burst, Goby, Then the GUM/Sunstar manual toothbrush and Curaprox/Curadent.

Toothpaste: I switch it up. Sitting in my cabinet are the following: Crest Gum Dexotify and Crest Gum Detoxify Sensitive, Colgate Total SF, Colgate Total Sensitive, Sensodyne.

FlossCocofloss!

Mouth Rinse: Listerine Total Zero
